So many things make kindergarten a fun and vibrant place to work. Children happy and successful in learning and playing alongside their peers, forming lifelong friendships and building a sense of community with their families and Kaiako that really care. I love how kindergarten is so inclusive and we make it a great place for all children.

Out of work interests involve family time, country life, equestrian sports and a love of music.

Kindergarten is special to me because I feel privileged that I get to share and be a part of each child’s learning as they explore, grow and play in a nurturing environment where they are given opportunities to become capable competent life long learners.

Horses and riding have been a lifelong passion of mine. Funnily enough my children have followed in my footsteps and join me now spending weekends away travelling and competing.

For me, kindergarten has always been a place where tamariki are empowered to lead their own learning so that they may grow into confident and competent learning individuals. We are very fortunate to be part of such a multi cultural community which has truly enhanced my teaching practice.

Outside of kindergarten I am very passionate about keeping fit and healthy, love reading and spending time with my family and in my garden. Rarotonga is one of my favourite places to visit as I love to embrace the people and their culture.

Reflecting on my school days, I remember the teachers who warmly greeted me each morning and diligently cultivated serene and engaging learning environments. Kindergarten embodies these qualities for me – a nurturing, tranquil, and enjoyable space for teaching and learning where each child and their family are acknowledged. I strongly believe in empowering children to pursue knowledge. By creating supportive learning environments, we enable them to select their interests to explore.

I come from South Africa and have a deep passion for the African bush and its wildlife. I love returning there from time to time. When I do, I always make sure to spend a week in another country to explore its culture and try its food.

Iona

Kindergarten is special to me because I still have fond memories of my own time at kindergarten. I remember the care, love and attention I received from my teachers at the time.  I love that I now too get to share my teaching, knowledge, care and passion with the Tamariki in our Kindergarten.  The children are the heart of what we do and Kindergarten offers an amazing space for children to reach their full potential and flourish in an enriched learning environment that works in partnership with Whanau and community.

Rarotonga is my absolute favourite place and destination.  We were married there and recently just returned to renew our vows with our 3 boys, it’s such a magical place with an amazing culture.

I enjoy being able to see the tamariki grow in confidence as they prepare for school.

Outside work I like to enjoy the outdoors, kayaking, biking and hiking. I also really enjoy visiting Melborne.
